Itinerary

Akrotiri Excavations Archeological site

See the excavations of the prehistoric town in Akrotiri which was created in the fifth millennium BC and then was covered with ash after the eruption of the volcano around 1500 years BC. The volcanic ash, by covering the whole city, kept the biggest parts of this area protected and now it is possible to walk inside the city and also see the wall paintings and some furniture vessels.

Red Beach, Akrotiri

The volcanic Red beach of Santorini is located on the South part of the island at the village of Akrotiri. This beach is a unique outcome of the volcano’s eruption around  the 16th Century BC. The red lava stone behind the beach creates an astonishing blend with the black sand and the crystal blue water. The way to reach the shore is uneven and rocky which makes it a bit dangerous sometimes to get there, but you can find a fantastic spot on the top of the beach to admire and take extraordinary pictures of this amazing natural creation.

Megalochori village

The name of this village means “the big village” in Greek as Megalochori is the largest local area all over Santorini. By visiting this local area you will be able to stroll around some very old stone made local houses and canavas and get an insider’s view of  how the real life on this majestic volcanic island is. Also it is worth stop at the main square of the village, where locals are used to gathering in traditional cafes and tavernas under a very charming and cozy atmosphere.

Pyrgos village

Pyrgos, the old capital of Santorini, is very famous for its different structure and the ruins of Kastelli fortress. While wandering inside the small alleys of Pyrgos, you will have the opportunity to admire some of the oldest houses of Santorini from the 10th Century. Also there you will find some very small local shops to enjoy a refreshment and to taste some local flavors.
